What Matters Most
In my journey to reading 200 books this year I started one called ‘Taking Back Your Time’ by Christy Wright. I’ve gone through a lot of changes this year from starting a new role at work on January 1st to moving from dating to engaged to married all over one summer. Also after we got married we of course started living together, something I’ve never done before. And we have a dog! I’ve never had one before so even that’s been new for me.
Taking back my time was a concept that appealed to me as I figure this new season of life out and try to excel at it. The book has five steps to accomplishing this and I want to share as I go. So, today’s step is figuring out what matters most. Part of that is deciding who you want to be so my top 5 characteristics that I want to be:
Loving
Generous
Thoughtful
Intentional
Authentic
After the 5 characteristics you’re supposed to make a list of the 10 things that matter most to you. So here’s mine:
My faith
My family - starting with Blake and extending to my parents, siblings, in-law fam, nieces & nephews, etc.
Friendships
Building our life together
My work
Seeing the world (travel)
Home (the place and the concept)
Down time (preferably on the water)
Health
Learning
I’m going to take a few days to just read and read this list as I try to figure out what changes I need to make as a result of this to the way I spend my time but more than that my energy. Pushing ourselves to do everything is one thing but being present and having bandwidth is something else entirely, am I right?
