Married Life: Christmas Prep

Our honeymoon is taking up the first half of November which means I need to be on my game for the holidays. By the time we get back and overcome jet lag while getting quickly back to work it’ll be Thanksgiving with Christmas closing in. I’m adding a few things to my Christmas ‘plate’ this year. First, I want to do Christmas cards for the first time since we got engaged, married, and will have honeymooned by the time Christmas happens I really want to share photos with the people who have so lovingly supported us this year. I’ve set a goal to get those ordered the week we get back from our honeymoon (so I have the option to include a honeymoon photo) while the deals on Christmas cards are hopefully still good. Many of our friends and family members contributed to our honeymoon as our wedding gift so I really want to be able to show pictures of that. Secondly, I’d like to include a Christmas letter/ update which will require me to be on my writing game in November when those go out. I love getting cards with pictures & I love a good Christmas letter.

Blake recently got a promotion at work and is now the manager of his department. In honor of that (and my love for Blake/Christmas/baking) I want to do Christmas goodies for his coworkers. I’m taking this idea mostly from my younger sister, Ruthie, who has faithfully done this for her husbands coworkers/employees over the years. She always makes a beautiful, delicious looking assortment and sends them to his office the week before Christmas and I want to do the same this year. So I’ve been putting together a list of goodies & ordered some cute Christmas goodie boxes. I even recruited my friend, Victoria, who shares my love of baking to come over for dinner & baking with me. I want to make this December a month of quality time and slow down. Which brings me to goal number three…

I’ve set a goal to finish all my Christmas shopping by December 1st. This is slightly more ambitious because half of November is pretty much taken up with honeymoon so it meant starting in early October and will mean really being intention these next few weeks. BUT it’s important to me that Christmas feels sweet and our time together isn’t hurried and full. I’ve always believed that when you start your shopping early you can work the deals and specials and that feels true already this year. I’ve finished 3 of my people so far and I’ve been able to come up with thoughtful, fun gifts and also worked to get them for a reasonable price (instead of paying top dollar last minute).

Lastly, I want to make a December date night schedule full of Christmas movies, activities, and fun. So if I can get my act together quickly enough - I’ll share that here for anyone that needs fun ideas as well.
