Married Life W1: Mini Moon & Moving In

The atrium @ the Gaylord Palms

One week married! I’ve decided to write a series about our first year of marriage that will be sprinkled in with my other posts. I’ve admitted before that this blog is really my way of tracking our lives in the way I love most: writing. It’s been surprisingly fun sharing it with an audience and I’ve had so much fun hearing from many of you what you’ve enjoyed. So keep those thoughts coming.

First week of marriage started out with a slow, relaxing weekend at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee, Florida. Since our honeymoon isn’t until November we called this our Mini Moon - a chance to start off without chores and responsibility. Time to celebrate our marriage together. The resort was AMAZING. We never had to leave the property - they had restaurants, pools, a water park, an atrium with plants, gators, koi ponds, and more to explore without leaving the AC. They even have a spa I got to spend one morning getting a hot stone massage in.

We came back Sunday morning to have a day to regroup and settle Blake in at home before the work week and we’ve been here ever since. When people asked what I most looked forward to about marriage it was easy: living together. This Sunday was the first time that the afternoon hasn’t rolled around and Blake’s had to head home and that made me so happy - home is together now.

Highlight for me from week one has to be having coffee and our devotional time together each morning. It’s been so sweet and Blake being willing to get up even as early as 3:45 in the morning to make it happen was the sweetest gift to me. We’re doing the Husband in Pursuit/Wife in Pursuit marriage devotional this month and it’s been good. This week there were great reminders to be intentional, to put our phones away, and to be generous towards each other in every way.

Biggest adjustment (because I know you’re wondering) - hmm, honestly Blake is easy to live with so far. I’d say the biggest adjustment for me this week has been cutting back on committing. I’m a yes person in so many ways but I’ve been working hard to give us the most time together and some downtime at that. So I’ll celebrate the cooking in, walks outside together, and a couple turned down invites for this week as I continue to learn the new normal of being a wife.
