Day Two: The Car Pack

Anyone else feel like some weeks they live in their car? I’ve always loved to drive and I still do but I prefer a 2 hour road trip to somewhere special now the fight through traffic from one job to the next while trying to get my forehead to shop shining and reload on the deodorant. I do much more of the second than the first though. I feel like often I’m hurrying from one place to another and trying to make the most of my time in-between on the phone, listening or responding to marco polos, or catching up on my reading goals via audiobooks.

Thanks to Tiktok and the many people who seem to be living a much more organized and ascetically pleasing life than I am, I got the idea to keep a car pack. I made myself one (well, actually 2) a few months back but this week I started work on making the perfect car pack for my sister who recently got a new Suburban. Her life is completely different from mine but at least as busy with four kids to run around so I figure if anyone needs a console stash it’s her. Here’s what I came up with. Please note: commissions are made one some qualified items shared.

Here’s how I made one for her:

  1. For the pack I have this one in my car in black (note: the large doesn’t fit in my console but the medium is perfect) but I bought this one in brown for my sister. They’re similar in price and honestly I’m not sure you’d be able to tell the difference in the quality with them side by side. The medium Aveniee makeup bag and the standard size for the Sanhecun bags are almost identical in size as well.

  2. Hand sanitizer. I was wondering to myself the other day if any of us ever carried this before Covid. I think the only place I ever worried about sanitizing before Covid was airplanes. I’ve always wiped down my tray table and sprayed my hands on planes especially when I traveled for work to avoid getting sick but now I have one pretty much everywhere (though I admit I try not to overuse it). These have become my absolute favorite hand sanitizers because they’re natural (something I love in products) as well as smell good and have a sleek design. But best yet? They’re refillable. If you want some you can use my code: thatswhatbsaid_ to get 10% off your order.

  3. Wet Wipes. I highly highly recommend you spend the little extra for the individually wrapped wipes because the packages of wipes dry out quickly especially if left in a car. Now this may be made worse by the fact that I live in Florida where the heat is wild for 9 months out of the year but I’ve had great luck with the individually wrapped ones hanging tough. I keep only a few in my pack at a time and the rest in a restock bin in my bathroom.

  4. Bandaids. I think these are clutch for all of us (who hasn’t ended up somewhere with a new pair of shoes that are ruining your day) but especially for Moms. Can’t imagine how many ballfields have needed a bandaid. So you can obviously get the regular ones but I really like Wellies so I have a pack in my car and I got a pack for my sister as well. I found mine at TJMaxx but honestly they were only about a dollar cheaper there so the free shipping option might just make your life easier.

  5. Lip Oil. I’m usually a chapstick over anything glossy kind of girl but in Florida good luck keeping a chapstick alive in a car that isn’t running for more than 60 seconds so I keep a lip oil in my car pack because it doesn’t melt but still gets the job done.

  6. Deodorant (spray form). This may be a Florida thing as well but I have to reload especially because I use natural deodorant. But of course, this will also melt in the car so I recommend having a spray version so you don’t have a huge mess in your pack when you get back.

  7. Snacks. These seem essential for all people with hanger problems but especially for Moms. I keep these in my car but if I were getting them for kids this might be my go to.

Got some ideas I should add to my list? I’d love to hear them. I also got her this mini vacuum to be used both in the new car (to clean up after those snacks!) and around the house for drawer crumbs and such.
