Year One
Blake,
You’ve officially been my husband for a whole year. How could I be so lucky? I still have to pinch myself from time to time. I can’t believe you picked me but man am I glad it means you’re stuck with me forever now.
Year one has not been without it’s tough stuff. I hate fighting with you but there been some. Thanks for accepting a million and one apologies and giving me grace as I continue to figure out how to be a wife, a dog mom, and honestly how to live with someone! I know I’ve not been the easiest but you’ve stuck with me graciously. Thanks for coming back and making things right, fixing fights, apologizing and clarifying as we grow together and figure out how to function as one. You’ve lead our family well this year and I’m so thankful for that.
I would never tell anyone marriage is easy but I would say a million times over it’s worth it. You make me better in so many ways and facing the world (and living for what comes after) is better with you by my side. I chose you then, I choose you now, and I will keep choosing you every day from here on out.
From time to time (usually when I’ve messed up) I like to pull out my vows and read them again. To remind myself what I promised you and who I want to purpose to be every day of this marriage. Lately I’ve been focusing on my promises to ‘pray for you and with you’ as well as to ‘always show up for you and be on your team’. I have fallen short of my vows every day of the last year but I promise again today to never stop working towards them.
We have made so many amazing memories in year one. I still can’t believe we got married during the hottest part of an August day in Tampa OUTSIDE. But since that sweet (and sweaty) day so many amazing things have happened. We had the sweetest wedding weekend at the Gaylord Palms. We got to explore Europe on the trip of a lifetime! Can we do that again someday? It was seriously the best. We figured out how to live on one income and save the other towards a house on the water someday so that I can keep doing my very favorite activity (boating) with my very favorite person (you). We went to our first bible study for married couples and we kept working on this marriage. I took you to your first Rodeo (can we go every year?). You took me on my first cruise. And we’ve spent a year planning a future together, loving on our family and friends, and growing in our relationships with the Lord.
Year one has been a year of growth and compromise. Of love and forgiveness. Of learning how to fight fair and always end up back on the same team. I promise to love you today, tomorrow, and forever with the kind of love the Bible promises will never fail. Happy Anniversary my love, you are the Lord’s greatest gift to me and I treasure you always.
B
